Life on Mars – Series 2

Click here for the first series.
“My name is Sam Tyler. I had an accident, and I woke up in 1973. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever’s happened, it’s like I’ve landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.”

Episode 01
Fuck, what a genius episode. I loved every second of it – the case, wonderful connected with Sam’s (John Simm) mystery. Sam’s mystery, wonderful connected with the cliffhanger and a goosebumps moment and lots of question, why Sam is in the past and who sent him (when somebody sent him) – when everything is connected to a greater good and it is not just madness or a dream of Sam, then this could be a really great season.
Even the little love story between Sam and Annie (Liz White) takes another step into the right direction (though I wished they would never become a couple; the series doesn’t need a love story) and she is now a DC (really? Let’s see if that will hold on for the next episodes). By the way: Is it me or are the authors putting more funny lines in? I was laughing every five minutes about something – more than I was laughing in the whole first series.
Anyway, very strong episode, but I will not give all ten points. Because I believe it can be better. 9,5/10

Life on Mars – Series 1

Two cops in the same town at the same time… 33 years apart. The series tells the story of DCI Sam Tyler (John Simm) of the Greater Manchester Police, who, after being hit by a car in 2006, finds himself in the year 1973. There, he works for Manchester and Salford Police CID as a DI under DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister). Over the course of the first series, Tyler faces various culture clashes, most frequently regarding the differences between his modern approach to policing and the more traditional methods of his colleagues.

Episode 1 A little bit more craziness for Sam and he would be more believable. More of the serious characters and the story would be more believable. This way the series is just… not believable enough for me. But it is a wonderful plot and the actors are great. The characters are missing a lot of background and the episode arc was told a little bit slow. The sequences of Sam getting “hick ups” from the future are mysterious and giving a little side plot to the series. The ending was too much, though.
The series just needs believable moments and characters ad it would be a great one; it is already interesting. The first episode was good and kept me watching. 7,5/10
