Pilot Review: LONE STAR
It seems like a miracle, when a network broadcaster tries to air a cable series. It would have been a miracle, when the ratings showed that the audience has interest in such shows on networks. But looking at the 1.3/3 Lone Star delivered Monday night, I am asking myself if this steamy project was dead on development order from the beginning. How could such an intelligent series work on a broadcaster on weeknights, dancing as a competition, which already draws 20 million viewers in front of the screen? How can such an intelligent series work, when no one wants to watch it on a broadcaster? What is this world going to do in five years, when not even FOX finds its guts to order a similar show again, because everybody knows that it won’t be a ratings success, and instead a bigger bomb than Joel Schumacher’s Batman movies? There is a lot to discuss about all of this, but this post is still a review of Lone Star and its pilot episode. My expectations were rising, as the start of the new network season came closer, and I can say that my expectations were fulfilled. Lone Star is a great series. On the wrong channel. Now there is only hope that the word-of-mouth after the pilot will be bigger and stronger than before the pilot. This show desperately needs an audience to save intelligent TV shows on a broadcasting level. Because otherwise Lone Star will be the last series of its kind on either FOX, NBC, ABC or CBS.
