Melissa & Joey: Finally a Likable Multicam-Sitcom (?)

The cast of the new family sitcom: Lennox, Joey, Mel and Ryder

Multicam sitcoms should be a dying breed, but they aren’t. CBS still has success with the among TV nerds unpopular genre, and after the success of Friends, no multicam-sitcom could pick up the phenomenon again – CBS’s successes with “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory” are not phenomenons in my eyes, and never picked up where Friends left off six years ago. But still, the networks are trying to heave their half-hour sitcoms into success, and it doesn’t work all the time. Back in the multicam-business is Melissa Joan Hart, worldwide known as the teen witch Sabrina from the last Century. From there to here she grew up, became a business woman, became a wife and a mother. While she played the niece of two aunts in “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”, she now transformed to an aunt for a niece and a nephew in the new sitcom Melissa & Joey, so she kinda knows how to act as an aunt and a to-be-parent. On her side is Tony-Danza-clone Joey Lawrence, and he and Melissa already developed their chemistry in the ABC Family movie “My Fake Fiance”, and why not writing a sitcom for those two new-found friends – and “Melissa & Joey” was born.
