Pilot Review: MIKE & MOLLY
I thought that multicam-sitcoms are a dying breed, but CBS brings them back every year, and encourage the other three big-name networks to do the same over and over. The name Chuck Lorre arouses a chuckle in the world of sitcom fans, and here is his third comedy he is executive producing. After being busy with Two And A Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, he didn’t grow tired and took on another job. He is like the Shawn Ryan of network television at the moment, but does it mean something good? The pilot episode of Mike & Molly was like I have expected it: At some moments I smiled, on two occasions I laughed, but I don’t have any interest in watching all of it. Mike & Molly was boring from start to finish; the characters don’t interest me, though they are not written too over the top and might me likeable; the cast looks boring at first, and even more boring after 20 minutes; the humor is nothing for me, but I was surprised that the fat jokes didn’t win the overhand. All in all Mike & Molly is not a sitcom for me and my tight schedule. But it would totally win against last year’s Hank and any other work Kelsey Grammar did. But I don’t expect for Mike & Molly to be more successful than Accidentally on Purpose was last year.
