Episode Review: RUNNING WILDE (“Best Man”)
Six episodes into the series, and I still don’t get the show. I already know the humor isn’t mines, but I still hope that there is something I can laugh to/with/about. Six episodes into the series, and I think I just laughed four times during all episodes, which is pretty much … very bad. And yet I’m still watching RUNNING WILDE. Just don’t ask me why.
The most biggest problem I’m having with this comedy: Will Arnett. He might be a nice person outside of the business (hell, he’s married with Amy Poehler), but his character is so stupid, unfunny (for me), unrealistic, and stupid that I can’t buy anything he is doing. Yes, he loves Emmy (Keri Russell), he tells it to me in every episode, but he still can’t say it to her face, because … there is no reason because.
The medieval wedding (or how you want to call it) was a nice idea, and it gives the episode something unique. Furthermore I kinda liked the battle between Steven and Andy (David Cross) about Emmy (which seems to be the only story, which I like), but I would have wished to see a whole episode of Andy and Steven battling it out. Why not bringing Emmy in the background for an episode, and rely on a man-to-man action comedy set during a medieval wedding? It could have been a great source for some funny scenes, but here not even the Joust was funny. I yawned, when Andy and Steven couldn’t do it, and instead “bitched” around on their horses like a little girl for a couple of seconds.
For the rest I have to say: It didn’t interest me. The beginning was still nice, with Steven trying to manipulate Emmy’s dreams, but with the start of them talking about Emmy’s engagement and the wedding, the episode became an off-turner. And neither Migo (Mel Rodriguez) nor Fa’ad (Peter Serafinowicz) could bring some class into the story, and I felt bored during the rest of the episode.
I will watch RUNNING WILDE until the end. Maybe I’ll understand then what the comedy fans have with Will Arnett. 4.5/10
Pilot Review: RUNNING WILDE
I never hoped to have an awesome comedy with Running Wilde. I didn’t expect anything from it, since I never saw much from Keri Russell (Felicity is still on my waiting list) and I don’t like Will Arnett very much. In addition, the story of Running Wilde doesn’t sound really interesting for a comedy series. So, there were enough reasons, why Running Wilde had to be a tough act to follow, especially after Raising Hope. When I would see those two shows as a competition, Raising Hope would definitely win. Running Wilde doesn’t have interesting characters for me, and the humor is completely missing. Either I didn’t get it, or this kind of humor is not my cup of tea. At least I know now that I won’t like Arrested Development much and can cut it from my waiting schedule for now.
