Pilot Review: THE EVENT

Lost and 24 ended a while ago. Fans of either or bot shows are about to forget everything they saw in these shows and move on. NBC takes the opportunity to get a new mystery show into the network schedule, hoping for viewers with a heart for serials and big mysteries to tune in, just to have another big fucking hit TV show. The only thing is: The pilot episode, titled “I Haven’t Told You Everything”, was even more confusing than any Lost episode or the forking paths theory in FlashForward. And the episode title already said it: This episode didn’t tell us everything. No, this episode didn’t tell us ANYTHING. I have read spoilers about what the event could be, and after watching the pilot, the spoilers could be right. But still, 41 minutes are way too short to introduce a new mystery slash conspiracy series to the audience. And I am asking myself again, why no one risks to produce a two-hour pilot episode anymore. Lost introduced its characters and stories slowly, but properly during 80 minutes; Fringe set up the mystery in almost perfect 72 minutes. But the pilot of The Event is too fast-paced, too hectic, too full of everything. A bunch of characters need to be introduced, the mystery needs to be introduced, and the producers decided to make it even more confusing with uncountable flashbacks and -forwards. So, what was the event of the pilot? I don’t know, too much of nothing ness happened…
